Amber Sperling Social Work & Psychotherapy Services

Healing Minds, Empowering Lives

You made the first step, now let’s change your life!

Does this sound familiar:

You are struggling with a transition in your life: a new baby, difficult relationship or something else leaving you feeling out of control?

Small things may feel overwhelming for no reason, you lash out at your partner, catch yourself crying out of nowhere or you feel lonely even while surrounded by others.

Life doesn’t have to stay this way.

Welcome to Amber Sperling Social Work and Psychotherapy Services. We are here to help.

All of the therapists here are highly trained to provide pre / postpartum and trauma focused psychotherapy techniques using both mind & body to work through past trauma.

Our therapists know how it feels to be overwhelmed and we are here to help you build your umbrella to weather the storm using trauma-focused EMDR, REBT, CPT, DBT and other therapies. Our clients walk away from therapy feeling more confident as parents, thriving as professionals, and partners in relationships; they are less anxious about life and have motivation to live the life they want to live.

It is common for new parents to experience mood and anxiety changes through the perinatal period. Many people question, “am I a good enough mom” or “what am I doing wrong to feel this way”. Perhaps you struggle to sleep, are irritable or cry without knowing why. Social workers in our practice are Perinatal Mental Health Certified with training in many therapy options to meet your needs.

Our Services

  • Individual Psychotherapy

There are times in our lives where anxiety or not feeling like ourselves gets in the way of enjoying life or achieving our goals. Psychotherapy offers opportunity to reflect and challenge beliefs, unhelpful behaviours and build resilience

  • Specialized Perinatal Therapy

Birth trauma, identity confusion, intrusive thoughts, loneliness, overwhelm and everything in between. Our therapists offer support and healing to validate your experience and become the parent you want to be.

  • EMDR Trauma Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a specific modality of therapy very effective in treating trauma and reducing distress caused by triggers in day to day life. We offer EMDR both in person and virtually across Ontario and NFLD

  • Couples Therapy

It is common for couples to struggle at times, especially after transitions such as expanding your family with little ones. If you are feeling disconnected, or questioning where your relationship is going - Karah is here to support you and your relationship

  • Mind and Movement

Meet your therapist to walk while we talk on a walking trail in Simcoe County. An option for clients to create connection to nature in a calm, safe space accessible between sessions. Rewards from therapy can be immediate walking in nature with your therapist or on your own with the therapist on the phone

  • Clinical Supervision for Therapists

Amber provides clinical supervision for Registered Social Workers and Social Work students for case consultation, use of self and prevention / response to vicarious trauma. There are current spaces for supervision and EMDR Consultant-in-Training hours

  • Workshops and Groups

The benefit of gathering in a group with others adds so much to the therapeutic experience. Our team has years of experience facilitating groups and has a passion for connecting the community.

Click on the Events page for updates on workshops and group offerings!

  • Therapy for Children

Now offering virtual therapy for children! If your child (5 and up) is struggling with emotions and you could use extra support for supporting them - book today with Karah for a free consultation.

Appointments are available in the privacy of your own space through secure video anywhere in Ontario (and now Newfoundland!) or in our office located in downtown Barrie, ON.

If your childcare is not an option, there is no need to cancel - We understand that you may have your baby with you, and that is OK.

We also offer “Mind and Movement” therapy options. Ask about meeting to walk and talk in nature to enhance the benefits of our time together.

Therapy Options

We are pleased to share that you do not need to be in the Barrie area to access our services!

At this time, our services are offered remotely to any resident of Ontario or Newfoundland.
